난재루 옆 정원의 생울타리는 홍가시나무로 정했다. 난재루 생울타리는 광나무인데 겨울에도 초록색이긴 하나 좀 단조롭니다. 그래서 많은 대안을 찾다가 겨울에도 붉은색 잎이 있는 홍가시나무를 선택했다. 조경회사 사장님에게 부탁하였는데, 어렵게 묘목을 구해오셨다. 요즘 홍가시나무가 귀해서 순천에 가서야 포트에서 2년 자란 묘목을 구할 수 있었단다. 2중으로 320여개 묘목을 심었다. 내가 포트에서 묘목을 빼주고 포트를 모아주는 등 조수를 해주어서 시간을 줄일 수 있었다. 자라는 과정을 충분히 즐길 수 있을 것 같다.

집사람이 2년정도 목공을 배우러 다니더니 기능사시험에 합격했다. 국가가 인정하는 기능사가 되었으니 평소 나무로 만들고 싶었던 것을 마음껏 만들기 바란다. 그 과정에서 기본적인 공구/작업 환경을 확보하였다.

막둥이 재우가 생일(3/23)이라고 집에 왔다. 큰형이 생일 케익(베스킨라빈스 아이스케익을 사와서 간단히 생일 축하를 했다. 함께 촛불도 끄고 노래도 부르면서. 재우는 예과 2학년으로서 학교생활을 즐기고 있는 것 같다.

전북건축사회 신구회장 이취임식에 전북건축가회 회장 자격으로 참석하였다. 감사장과 명예회원증도 받았다. 이번 행사는 도지사, 교육감, 연금관리공단 이사장, 원광대 총장 등이 참석하여 건축인의 위상을 높여주었다. 약간은 정치적인 분위기가 있어서 아쉽기는 하였지만.

어제 일기예보를 보면서 설마했는데, 아침에 눈을 뜨면서 블라인드를 올려보니 밤새 눈이 왔고 지금도 오고 있는 중이다. 봄이 온 것으로 알고 꽃잎을 내 놓았던 산수유가 많이 당황했을 것 같다. 정원의 다른 화초류의 새순이 올라오고 있는데 눈은 좀 생뚱맞다.

2011년 부터 시작된 페이퍼코리아 공장이전 사업이 일부 결실을 맺었다. 7년만에 신공장 준공식(2018.3.20)을 갖게 되었다. 공장부지를 이용한 개발사업도 3월말 푸르지오 아파트가 입주를 앞두고 있는 등 비교적 순탄하게 진행중이다. 2-3단계 아파트 사업도 차례로 마무리될 예정이다.

나는 2011년 부터 군산시 추천 페이퍼코리아 공장이전추진위원회 위원으로 참여해오고 있다. 이번 회의가 19회 위원회라고 한다. 이 사업은 도시의 공장부지를 개발사업을 통하여 재원을 조달하여 공장을 도시 외곽(산업단지)으로 이전하는 하나의 모델이 될 것이다. 모든 공장시설을 철거하기 때문에 역사적인 측면의 보존이 아쉬운 점이다. 사업자에게 최대한 사진이나 기록물은 남겨두도록 부탁하였다.

난재루 정원에 봄의 시작을 알리는 산수유가 꽃망울을 터뜨렸다. 그간 바빠서 미뤄놓았던 회화나무 4그루의 가지를 쳐주었다. 회화나무는 너무 빨리 자라기 때문에 일찍부터 나무 높이와 수형을 관리해야 한다. 그렇지 않으면 너무 크게 자라서 다른 나무와 조화를 이루기도 어렵고 관리가 불가능해진다. 이번 주말은 시간이 되는대로 소나무와 다른 나무도 가지치기를 마칠 생각이다.
